Twelve mile down to Viatma and there I stock up for Sunday.  As I ride through the forest road to Sol I recall traveling this part.  I am forced on to E6 as this is the only choice and then later banned by E6 signage further on.  So I am sent on farm roads on the hillside as E6 highway goes at a pleasant grade up the valley floor.  As evening comes I final find a perch to camp on.

 It is a cold morning as I start to climb.  It is just Norway’s second highest pass.  After a few mile I can shed the rain gear and fleece jacket.  Cool winds helps a little.  At the top is a false summit and 5 more miles to go.  There I pile on the layers again.  This helps with the long cool decent, but I still need to stop to warm to warm myself.  The tailwind takes a turn to a strong headwind from the north.  My thermometer shows temp dropping as I drop in altitude.  At 40 miles the sun comes out and I camp in that little warmth of 38 degrees.  After a quick meal sleep over takes me.  A few flakes overnight.

Cloudy cool morning as I ride on a plateau though the tree line rode.  Easy riding along the paved road.  There are signs for a bike route along dirt roads and trails.  I stay with the pavement.  Then it is time to drop down onto the valley to Fagernes.  Futher on it is a steady upward progress to the north with a head wind.  There is forest with rivers and lakes along the way.  Before the trees run out I camp.  Tent stakes show me that the ground is still frozen.  After dinner I have a few things to do as writing this.  As I was lying down the next thing I know I’m waking at midnight with my hip and side on the frozen ground.  Found the one way valve open and it must leak slowly.  I refill the air mattress and am quickly asleep again.

Cloudy cool morning with a few snow flakes.  Fully bundled with 37F temp.  Take the back roads into Gol 8 miles.  I head to the library as the blog needs an update.  Pealing the layers before entering the Bibliotek.  Hours later I emerge to sunshine and a warmer world.  I head up and out of the valley only 6 miles to camp in a nice woods.

I woke to the sound of light rain on the tent.  When I looked out it was light snow that melted when landed.  Went back to sleep.  Noon start had me fully bundled as the temp was just at freezing 32F.  Riding around a lake on a forested road I looked forward to the climbs to bring me warmth.  Then there was the long drop into the valley with a cascading river near by.  I stop again and again to try to bring feeling to my feet.  Warm did not come quickly in the valley.  I need to ride many miles up the valley before I could feel the body warming.  I stopped early hoping to get to Gol with time to update the blog before needing to ride onward to find a camp.
